10 Best Unicorn Birthday Party Games for Kids Ages 4–8

10 Best Unicorn Birthday Party Games for Kids Ages 4–8

Planning a birthday party for your little one is one of those exciting times of year but can get overwhelming and stressful quickly. Today, I’m going to share with you my top 10 easy unicorn party games that are easy to plan, budget-friendly and highly entertaining. The best part is that these fun unicorn birthday party games can easily be done at home, with minimal materials.

You’ll love this list of unicorn party games because there’s something for everyone– high-energy games, games that involve guessing or exploring, competitive games and calm and creative experiences and lots and lots of fun magical surprises. These games are truly wrapped up in magical unicorn surprises kids won’t get enough of.

1. Pin the Horn On the Unicorn

What You’ll Need:

  • x1 large unicorn poster
  • Paper horns for each child
  • x1 blind-fold
  • Tape
  • Marker

How to play:

This game is super fun and more importantly it requires minimal materials to play– all you need is a large unicorn poster and paper horns for the number of kids that you’re hosting. Stand the kids in a line. Blind-fold the child who will be pinning the horn. After pinning, mark their horn by writing the child’s name. The child that pins closest to the spot, wins!

2. Unicorn Treasure Hunt

What You’ll Need:

  • Props for hiding – mini glitter wands, gems, golden eggs filled with candy or stickers.
  • Final treasure prize– mini treasure box filled with confetti, chocolate gold coins and a mini plush unicorn toy.
  • Clue cards
  • Unicorn dust (glitter or pastel or shimmery confetti)
  • Small paper bags (for collecting treasures)

How to Play:

Pick 5-8 hiding spots indoors or outdoors. Make sure the hiding spots are easily accessible and safe. Read out clues to the children. Each clue should lead to the next hiding spot. I like to keep the clues simple with fun riddles or hints. Place a clue at each spot like unicorn dust. Hide the mini treasure box at the last clue spot to end the game. Whoever finds the treasure box wins.

3. Unicorn Ring Toss

What You’ll Need:

  • Unicorn horn target (DIY horn or store-bought cone)
  • Rings (plastic rings, rope loops or glow rings for a unicorn twist)
  • Chalk or tape
  • Paper and pen to track results

How to Play:

Place the horn (cone) on a stable surface on the ground a few feet away. Mark the aiming line with chalk or tape. Children stand in a line and aim for the unicorn horn. Each child will get 3 rings to toss at the horn. Whoever gets the most rings over the horn wins. Each toss equals 1 point. If you have ties, repeat until you have a winner.

4. Craft Station

What You’ll Need:

  • Unicorn masks
  • Mini unicorn figurines
  • Paint, coloring pencils, crayons and markers
  • Craft jewels

How to Play:

Set up a craft station with creative tools. Let children be creative and design their own magical unicorn creations. This one is extremely popular with girls!

5. Unicorn Freeze Dance

What You’ll Need:

  • Music player (any device with speakers)
  • Open space (indoors or outdoors)

How to Play:

This game is one of my favorites to add to a unicorn party for a high-energy game. It fits in perfectly with the unicorn theme and girls absolutely love it. The best part is that it’s very simple to set up because you don’t need to buy anything– all you need is a working phone with speakers and just some space! While the music plays all the kids must dance, spin and act like magical unicorns and freeze immediately as the music randomly stops. Whoever moves, must sit out or they have to do a silly unicorn pose to get back into the game. The last kid to freeze wins!

6. Magical Unicorn Piñata

What You’ll Need:

  • Unicorn Piñata
  • String or rope (to securely hang the piñata)
  • Candies, unicorn stickers, and mini toys (for filling the piñata)
  • Lightweight bat or stick (for breaking the piñata)
  • Small bags per child (for collecting treats)
  • Blindfold (optional)

How to Play:

This is so much fun and goes perfectly with a unicorn party because kids love surprises and this is full of fun and excitement. Choose a secure spot to hang the piñata like a low-hanging tree branch or secure ceiling so that kids can reach easily and safely. Line up the kids so each child can have a turn at hitting the piñata with the lightweight bat. Keep rotating the children until it breaks open. Let the children gather the treats and surprises and fill their unicorn bags.

7. Unicorn “Guess the Number” Jar

What You’ll Need:

  • A jar
  • Colorful candies
  • A paper and pen

How to Play:

Fill a jar with colorful candies. Let every child guess the “number of candies” in the jar. Record each child’s guess. The closest guess wins the candy jar. Announce the winner towards the end of the party to keep the suspense and excitement.

8. Unicorn Dress Up Race

What You’ll Need:

  • Set-up station
  • Baskets for holding items for each team
  • Unicorn tulle or tutu skirts
  • Unicorn wings
  • Unicorn head bands (with horns and ears)
  • Unicorn wands.

How to Play: Set up a unicorn dress-up station. Place a basket filled with unicorn dress-up skirts and accessories for each team. Each team must have the same number of items to keep things fair. Make 2-3 teams depending on how many children there are, ensuring each team has an equal number of kids. Now, mark lines for each team with tape or chalk and mark the start and finish lines with a marker or place cones. Each team must stand in a line within their designated rows. After they hear “Go”, the first member from each team must race to the dress-up station and put on one of each item and run back to their team. They tag the next team member and the race continues. The winning team is the first to complete the race.

If you have limited unicorn outfits, you can have each team player remove their outfit and pass it on to the next player as part of the tag.

9. Pass the Unicorn Parcel

What You’ll Need:

  • A unicorn prize (main prize)
  • Small unicorn themed prizes (candy, stickers, mini toys, wands)
  • Unicorn-themed wrapping paper (pastel, rainbow or shimmery)

How to Play: Wrap the prize in 8-10 layers of wrapping paper, hiding small prizes in between each layer so that every child gets something. To make it extra magical and fun, write a note on some layers with unicorn dares like “Do a unicorn twirl”. Sit children in a circle and play music while children pass the unicorn parcel around. Randomly pause the music, the child who is holding the parcel will unwrap one layer– they collect their prize or do the dare. Continue the game until you reach the final layer. The child who unwraps the last layer wins the unicorn prize.

10. Feed the Unicorn Game

What You’ll Need:

  • A large unicorn poster board with the mouth cut-out
  • A basket with soft balls or bean bags
  • Tape or marker to mark the aiming spot a few feet away from the poster

How to Play: Place the poster at eye-level. Children stand in a line and aim at the unicorn’s mouth. Each child gets 3-5 tosses. The child who feeds the unicorn the most wins!

That’s it from me. I hope you’ll try these games at your next unicorn party– I’d be thrilled to know how they go. Choose 2-3 games and challenges for a standard party but feel free to add more to keep kids thoroughly entertained if you have a longer schedule.

To make your games and entertainment a notch more exciting and organized, use matching unicorn signs to label each game or activity station. This makes your party look more aesthetic and gives your little guests direction.
